Lock’s of Style Magazine
Case Study
PROJECT GOAL:
For this project we were asked to create a magazine (our topic of choice). We had to create everything, design wise: front and back cover, ads, logo and branding. We also had to create promotional items for the magazine, external ads, a website with a mobile version, social media posts, and branding style guide.

PROJECT EXPERIENCE:
There was a lot of planning going on with this project. I had to make a lot of sketches to explore different ideas and concepts. I also had to edit and change many aspects of the whole design process to perfect the overall brand of the magazine.

Top: brochure; bottom: social media banner

The most challenging part of the large project was creating a website and mobile version. I had a difficult time coming up with a design that was clean and organized. I wasn’t entirely sure what elements and features to add to the website, how much information to add to the website, and how the users would interact with it. It took a lot of planning and figuring out to get a layout I was happy about and that fit with my branding.

Bottom right: social media (Instagram posts + stories)

The most time consuming portion of the process was creating the branding style guide for the whole magazine brand. Organizing and making sure to add every aspect of the brand was tedious, but worth it.

PROJECT OUTCOME:
I’m definitely proud of this project. It took a lot of time and effort from me to create a whole magazine brand from the beginning. It’s very rewarding to see the final product and how all the pieces come together to successfully promote and showcase the magazine. I learned a lot from this project, especially when it came to planning out and establishing a consistent brand throughout each design piece. I’m sure I can still perfect some of those pieces, but I’m very happy with how it turned out.
